Studying Knitted Textiles allows me to showcase my love for colour and texture, rather than the more illustrative side of print and embroidery, however I do explore this style within my sketchbook and have created some digital print designs that work successfully alongside my knitted samples. I love taking photographs, drawing a lot of my inspiration from the beautiful colours that can be seen in nature and architecture. From my project called Botanical Explorer during 2nd year, I discovered I had a passion for childrenswear and I think my style of work really fits in with this, so I have made my final year project a collection of samples designed for children. My final project has a strong focus on colour, and I have loved exploring different colourways within my samples and sketchbook. Another aspect of my work is the idea of challenging the stereotypes created by the fashion industry, particularly the idea that girls should wear pink and boys should wear blue. This was my dissertation topic and I did an extensive amount of research on the reasons why this is the case and what can be done to change it, therefore my aim of this project is to express that I believe it is OK for boys to wear pink and girls to wear blue, by creating a unisex collection including these colours.
